Last nights message by Greg was entitled, An Audience Of One
In the introduction he read the words of a song about an audience of one. I didn't get the Artist name but the words to the song were great. The introduction to the lesson had these two points.
* One of the most liberating truths you and I can experience is that our life is ultimately lived for an audience of One.
* It is a dicovery that clarifies and energizes our spiritual development.
One God
Ancient polytheism was concerned with appeasing the various gods who were in an antagonistic relationship with mankind.
Pantheism is the idea that all of nature, including mankind, is a part of a higher spiritual existence. Nature and man are equal in value.
The biblical truth is there is just one true God, there is no other like him (Isa. 46:9,10; Ps. 83:18
One to Worship
Assembling together for worship is not about personal entertainment.
Outside of the assemblies, there is the opportunity to continue to glorify God with our entire being ( Rom. 12: 1,2; 1 Cor. 6: 9,10).
Comments; Even though there are no scripture that forbids things like social drinking, smoking, all sorts of body piercing and many things people do for show, these things are a negative influence and only done for self pleasure rather than pleasing God.
One To Please
Many Christians serve in the dark. It may be that the reason they are there is to please someone else rather than God, or they are there because they are forced to be there.
The light comes on when Christians discover church isn't about performing for people, its about pleasing God.
"Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for God rather than men; knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve" (Col: 23,24).
Benefits:
* He is aware of everything! Heb. 4:13
* He will never forget any good deed! Heb. 6:10
* He will never desert you! Heb. 13:5
* He will give you the power to serve consistently and joyfully.
One Way Home
Our citizenship is in heaven (Phil. 3:20)!
Christ is:
* The only sufficient sacrifice for sins
* The only one to rise from the dead never to die again
* The only son of God--Rom. 1:4
* The only Savior-- Acts 4:12
* The only way home--Jn. 14:6
When we worship, it is not about me, it is the one who died on that cross. No matter what I do or try to accomplish in this life and do all the good deeds I can, these will never take the place of Christ.
"For am I now seeking the favor of men, or God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a Bond-Servant of Christ." (Gal. 1:10)
