Well, the rain has come today to round out a very good Memorial Day Weekend. On Saturday, we visited graves of family members at 4 cemeteries including the National cemetery in Little Rock where i have a brother buried. We also visited the new cemetery in in No. Little Rock for Arkansas Veterans. When i go to these places especially the veterans cemeteries it gives me a greater sense of appreciation for the men and women who died so that i may have the freedom and opportunites to live a peaceful life without fear.
I realize also there is a lot of anger in our country about the war in Iraq. I have pondered the pros and cons of this situation and have concluded that the right decision was made. I am also convinced that the threat is not limited to Iraq, but other areas such as Iran and North Korea.I remember also the days of the Holocaust and what Hitler done. I am fully convinced, there are those today who are just as ruthless as Hitler. I went to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam with George and Julia and also realize that no matter what you do you are never fully free of danger when evil men seek to destroy you. I will go on record and state that I support President Bush and the efforts he has in place to defeat terroism. 9-11 is still fresh on my mind and i mourn the men and women who lost their lives that day and feel a great deal of sympathy for their families.
I think also of the words of Paul in Eph. 6:11-13. Put on the full armor of God so you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powersof this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the whole armor of God, so when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground,
Paul reminds us also in 2Cor. 11:14, Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
Yes, this Memorial day is extremely important to me. I feel that all the annimosity that i hear and read about discredits those who are fighting for my freedom. I cannot know why decisions are made to do things a certain way during war time, but i must rely on those who make those decisions based on their ability to do so. However, whatever happens i can still have faith that God is in control. No matter how much we critisize, it does not change the situation. At my age it does not affect me that much but my concerns are for my kids, grandkids and great grandkids and all the younger generation who will live in this world in years to come. I pray for their future lives and that they can live in a country free from those enemies who seek to destroy.
